Meaning
Waves beat at the foot of the rock and the sunset spreads behind the temple, until the rising tide sets it adrift as an island on the sea.
Tradition holds that it was founded in the 16th century by the sage Dang Hyang Nirartha, come from Java, and it is honored as one of Bali's sea temples dedicated to the god of the ocean. It has long been beloved for the way it stands alone upon the water, cut off from the mainland at high tide.
