Meaning

A river winds through the dense forest, and in every pool of shade, earthen figures and shrines stand quietly among the trees.

In Yoruba tradition, this grove is held to be the dwelling of Osun, goddess of the river; with shrines and sculptures throughout the forest and a festival renewed each year, it is understood as a living sanctuary. It is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
