Meaning

Red halls stand in the shade of old cedars, and incense smoke drifts quietly toward the Patriarch Hall, where the Sixth Patriarch's true body is said to rest.

A temple at Caoxi said to have been founded in the sixth century, where Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Chan, is held to have long dwelt and taught the Southern School's way of sudden awakening. His teachings are gathered in the Platform Sutra, and tradition holds that his preserved body is enshrined here.
